The Southampton International boat show is just around the corner and as ever Boatshed.com will be there, we’ll be at stand C53 and we’d like to extend a very warm invitation to anyone coming to the show to come over and see us. Don’t forget our legendary fizz@five everyday at the show when all are welcome to come for a glass of fizz and a boaty chat.
The BoatBid.com catalogue has a range of used motor and sailing boats on offer. All the boats are keenly priced as they are very seriously for sale but some of them though fantastic boats are not that well known so I thought I’d let you know a little more about a couple of them.
BoatBid.com the online used boat auction supported by Boatshed.com has just launched the catalogue for their fifth auction. As usual we have a range of motor and sailing boats for sale in this auction which will run from the 12th to the 16th September during the first half of the Southampton Boat Show although as always the auction is online so you can be anywhere in the world and still bid.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is the charity that provides a 24-hour lifesaving service around the UK and Republic of Ireland. Last year RNLI lifeboats rescued almost 8,000 people, an average of 21 people a day.
Church Stretton is probably as far from the sea as you can get in England. Mandy Chapman from Boatshed.com HQ office in Gosport was visiting the area for the day and was asked to help with the RNLI fund raising the local town.

Interest in the fourth BoatBid.com online boat auction is really hotting up. All our Boatshed.com brokers, who are handling the individual sales for the used boats in the auction, have been really busy answering questions and arranging viewings on the boats.

At 1230 BST H.R.H. The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, fired the start gun for this years Original Single Handed Trans-Atlantic Race (OSTAR).
Over one hundred and fifty canal boats crammed together at Little Venice in the centre of London of a beautifully warm bank holiday weekend. This year’s Canalway Cavalcade saw a record turnout in both boat and visitor numbers and Boatshed Grand Union was at the heart of it. With our sponsorship of the Real Ale Bar emblazoned on the side of the marquee for all to see and large scale banners around the site, not to mention thousands of branded beer mats and piles of postcards, our presence was unmissable.
I write this with a westerly gale raging outside but summer is only just around the corner. The Boat Bid team have been working hard selecting a fantastic range of used motor and sailing boats for the summer auction. There’s just a week to go before the catalogue is launched but we still managed time to sit out in glorious sunshine yesterday lunch time and we’ve also sneaked in some fantastic sailing already this year.
To find out just what it’s like to buy or sell a boat through BoatBid I caught up with Steve Booth of Boatshed Essex who is now in the process of finalising the sale of the Stewart 24 Quarter Tonner from the last BoatBid auction.
The Pre Summer BoatBid has just finished with another flurry of bidding and boat sales. Yet again we sold some of the boats through Boatshed before the bidding even started but with nearly 3,000 used boats on the Boatshed website BoatBid will always have plenty more to take their place.
BoatshedBVI www.boatshedbvi.com was once again privileged to race on the beautiful 1962 57’ Abeking & Rasmussen ketch at this year’s Antigua Classic.
The fifth annual Plymouth Sail and Power Show in the UK is set to take place on Saturday 25th to Sunday 26th April 2009.
The Easter holidays are now over and many boats have returned to their moorings. Some will have just been launched and their owners may well have spent the holidays putting the final touches to the winter works before she went back in. Others will have been lucky enough to get a few days away over the holidays; many harbours were surprised by the number of visiting boats over Easter here on the South Coast of England where the weather was much more conducive to boating than it has been for the last few Easters. But there were also people who spent part of their Easter break looking for a used boat to buy. If you are one of those people and didn’t find your dream boat then the Pre Summer BoatBid auction may be able to help. There’s no need to go traipsing round boatyards and marinas, as our qualified Boatshed broker has done this for you. For each boat in the catalogue we have a detailed description and inventory and up to 70 pictures of each boat so that you can get a really good idea of the boat and her condition, if you need to know more you can call the broker who has been onboard the boat and spoken with her owner. We have used boats in all shapes and sizes in the auction. There is a Quarter Tonner, a class of sailing yacht which is undergoing something of a revival lately and providing some very close and competitive racing but as the rules of these yachts specified the need for some creature comforts for longer races they also make fantastic fast economical cruising boats for two. If you like small power boats then we have several to chose from, a Raider 18 Fisherman for the anglers or a Sea Fox 197 for those who prefer flat out speed for instance. But we also have larger boats, from a Mirage 28, a still popular cruising boat, friends spent 5 years cruising theirs all round the Med; and a good clean example of a Princess 415, another fantastic cruising boat for those who prefer power over sail, this one brings back memories of cruising round France with my family for me. But your dream boat might be something completely different so take a look at the catalogue, perhaps it will be the Formula 40 sailing catamaran or the Sunseeker Mohawk 29 which will catch your eye but which ever boat it is you fancy you know that these boats all have owners who are keen to sell and reserve prices set to match. You can also bid in confidence as you know that you’ll be able to have a full inspection and professional survey after the auction to make sure there are no hidden problems with your dream boat and you’ll be able to use our qualified Boatshed brokers help and expertise to guide you through the purchase, they’ll even be able to help you find companies to transport your new boat home.
Easter always seems to mark the start of the boating season with families leaving their berths for the Easter hols and heading off for their new adventures.
“Fizz @Five” is a glorious Boatshed tradition, but canal boaters are fuelled more by Real Ale than champagne. That is why Boatshed Grand Union has agreed to sponsor the Real Ale Bar at Canalways Cavalcade, to be held at Little Venice in Central London on the first weekend in May. Cavalcade is the country’s most important meet for narrowboat owners, with many hundreds of boats lining the water’s edge and moored in the basin close to Paddington Station.
